Mid-Year Update from American Savings Foundation

Charles J Boulier III, Chairman of the Board

Maria Falvo, President & CEO

July 2018

As we enter the second half of 2018, we'd like to share some exciting new projects that we are working on for next year.

   A Look Back
As part of our recent Strategic Planning process, we reflected on the legacy and values that led to the creation of American Savings Foundation.  We are pleased to share this short legacy video with our neighbors, colleagues, scholarship recipients, and friends to help tell this story.

   Coming Soon
As we look to the future, we will honor this legacy as we evolve to meet new challenges and respond to emerging needs.  We remain committed to our mission - to strengthen the community by supporting education, human services, and the arts, with a special emphasis on the needs of children, youth and families.  We also continue to invest in the cities of New Britain and Waterbury, as well as respond to need in the other 62 towns historically served by American Savings Bank.  To better meet these needs, at the beginning of 2019 we will launch a new Small Grants program to respond to requests from these towns.

At the same time, we will also launch a new website.  In addition to making the site more mobile-friendly, our goal is to help grant and scholarship applicants find the information they are looking for, as easily as possible. The new website will  include an online grant application specifically designed for the new Small Grants program.

We also examined the impact of our scholarship program.  We found that 81% of Robert T. Kenney Scholars earn their college degree within five years. Over the past 10 years, our average scholarship award has increased at the same rate as the rising cost of education.  In the coming years, we will continue to look for opportunities to streamline the application process, and to improve student retention, engagement, and degree completion for our scholars.

As always, the American Savings Foundation will continue to invest in the people and organizations that make our communities strong. That is our lasting commitment.
